Websites and digital business cards in British Columbia

From tour boats in Victoria to orchards in the Okanagan and job sites across the Lower Mainland, BC is a lot of very different places. We build pages for the people who work in them, and you see a free draft before you pay.

The short answer

What should a BC small business website have?

BC is big, and people search close to home: by town, by valley, by island. Your page names the places you cover and how far you'll travel, whether that's across the Lower Mainland or over to the Gulf Islands.

A few BC rules show up on the page too. Licensed electrical and gas contractors have to put their licence number in their digital advertising, under Technical Safety BC rules in force since 2023. New homes have to be built by a licensed residential builder and carry home warranty insurance, so builders do well to show both. And Family Day in BC falls on the third Monday in February, which is worth getting right in your holiday hours.

A lot of BC work follows the seasons: tourism on the coast and in the mountains, farm stands in the valleys. If your hours or services change with the season, your page should say so, and on the Business Showcase you can change it yourself when the season turns.

Who could use it

Who in British Columbia could use a page like this

BC by area: the kind of work each part of the province is known for, and what a page of your own does for the people doing it.

Vancouver and the Lower Mainland

The province's biggest city region, with a big tech sector, film and TV production and a lot of construction. Trades, realtors, designers and consultants work in a crowded market, where a clear page with real work stands out from the noise.

Victoria and Vancouver Island

The capital, cruise ships at Ogden Point and a tourism season that fills the harbour. Tour operators, small hotels, pubs and the trades who keep old houses standing all do better with a page that visitors and locals can find on a phone.

The Okanagan and the valleys

Orchards, farms and wineries in the Okanagan, and farmland through the Fraser Valley. Farm stands, wineries, cafes and bakeries live on visitors in season and on locals the rest of the year, and both have to find you first.

The Kootenays and the mountains

One of BC's big outdoor adventure destinations, alongside mining and logging. Guides, lodges, rental shops and instructors live on visitors who plan from far away, often months ahead, on a phone.

The North and resource towns

Forestry and mining still drive much of northern BC. Contractors, equipment suppliers, electricians and the services around them need pages that open fast on a phone at a job site, with a quote form that takes a photo.

For BC pages

What to get right on a BC page

Rules and details that matter here. We'll ask you about each one.

  1. Licence numbers for regulated trades

Licensed electrical, gas and some other contractors must show their licence number in digital ads. Your page is a natural place for it.

  2. Builder licence and home warranty

Building new homes? Show your licence and your warranty provider. Buyers look for both.

  3. Family Day and other holidays

Third Monday in February in BC. Put your holiday hours on the page.

  4. Islands and ferries

Serving the Gulf Islands, or working both sides of the water? Say how it works, ferry days included.

  5. Seasonal hours

Tourist season, ski season, harvest. If your hours change, show both.

  6. The towns you actually cover

"Kelowna and West Kelowna" beats "the Okanagan". People search by town.

Before you ask

Questions from BC businesses

Do you work with businesses all over BC?

Yes, from the Island to the Rockies and up north. Everything is done online, so where you are doesn't change how it works.

Does my licence number have to be on my website?

If you're a licensed electrical or gas contractor, or in a few other regulated trades, Technical Safety BC requires your licence number in your digital advertising. We put it where people can see it. This isn't legal advice, so check the rules for your own trade.

I build new homes. What should my page show?

Your builder licence and your home warranty provider, along with your projects. Buyers in BC can check both, and seeing them up front builds trust.

Can my page be in another language?

Yes, on the Video Hub. If many of your customers speak another language, each language gets its own pages.

How fast can I get a draft?

About 3 days after you send your details and a few photos.

How much is it?

The Digital Business Card is $99 a year, the Business Showcase $299 and the Video Hub $599. The Card and the Showcase start with a free draft, and you pay only if you say yes.
